PeaceTech Lab works to reduce violent conflict using technology, media, and data to accelerate and scale peacebuilding efforts.
Compensation: Course credit or $13.25 per hour worked.
Work Schedule: Part-time, 15 - 20 hours per week
Dates: Late August to early December 2018. Exact start and end dates will be determined based on candidate’s availability.
Location: Washington, D.C.
Duties and Responsibilities: Assist PeaceTech Lab in various outreach and community engagement related programs. Tasks include drafting and editing weekly email newsletter, assisting with social media, managing staff writing schedules, research and writing related to technology, data, media, and peacebuilding, logistical help for events, and community outreach. Intern will also have the opportunity to publish a blog piece, contribute to overall communications strategies, and be a Lab representative at area events and meetings.
Desired Qualifications: Undergraduate seniors or Master's students in international affairs, science and technology, peace and conflict studies, development, communications, or similar field. Successful applicants will possess a good understanding of and interest in the role media, data, and technology play in preventing violent conflict, improving development, and streamlining the humanitarian field. Candidates should have excellent research, writing (in English), critical thinking, and editing skills, take initiative and be a contributing member of the team, and possess keen attention to detail, creativity, and good interpersonal skills. Applicants must have a working knowledge of software applications such as MS Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of content management systems, graphic design tools, MailChimp, Google Suite, and Hootsuite a plus.
