PeaceTech Lab works to reduce violent conflict using technology, media, and data to accelerate and scale peacebuilding efforts.


Communications internship

Compensation: Course credit or $12.50 per hour worked.

Work Schedule: Part-time, 15 - 20 hours per week

Dates: Mid-May to late-August 2018. Exact start and end dates will be determined based on candidate’s availability.

Location: Washington, DC

Duties and Responsibilities: Assist PeaceTech Lab in various outreach and community engagement related programs. Tasks include drafting and editing weekly email newsletter, assisting with social media, managing staff writing schedules, preparing briefings for panels or speeches, research and writing related to technology, data, media, and peacebuilding, logistical help for events, and minor administrative work. Intern will also have the opportunity to publish a blog piece, contribute to overall communications strategies, and be a PeaceTech representative at area events and meetings.

Desired Qualifications: Rising undergraduate seniors or Master's students in international affairs, science and technology, peace and conflict studies, development, or communications. Successful applicants will possess a good understanding of and interest in the role media, data, and technology play in preventing violent conflict, improving development, and streamlining the humanitarian field. Candidates should have excellent research, writing (in English), critical thinking, and editing skills, should possess keen attention to detail, creativity, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with a small team in time-crunch situations. Applicants must have a working knowledge of software applications such as MS Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of content management systems, MailChimp, Google Suite, and Hootsuite preferred.
