SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT
John Pope is the Special Assistant to the President at the PeaceTech Lab. PeaceTech Lab works for individuals and communities affected by conflict, using technology, media, and data to accelerate local peacebuilding efforts. Headquartered at the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP), the Lab carries out its mission in close collaboration with public and private sector partners.
John joined PeaceTech Lab from the international communication master’s program at American University’s School of International Service which he also attended for his bachelor’s degree.
While at American, he ran for the school’s Cross Country and Track and Field team, and was a member of the International Communication Student Forum and the Public and Cultural Diplomacy Forum. Previously, John worked for the Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy and assisted in creating the 2014 Comprehensive Annual Report on Public Diplomacy and International Broadcasting and studies on data driven diplomacy and civilians working in conflict zones. He interests include new media, cross-cultural communication, public diplomacy, 3D printing, and international sports.
